AOI inspection in SMT process

The full name of AOI is automatic optical inspection.It is a device that uses the optical principle to inspectthe SMTwelding processand perform common defective detection. The device automatically scans the PCB through the camera during AOI device automatically detection, collecting the PCB image, and compares the collected PCB image data with the parameters input in the database. After simple image processing, determining the welding defectives of PCB board, and mark/display the defects through automatic marking device or equipment display so that the worker can repair it in time. It can detect multiple parts, missing parts, wrong parts, tombstones, sideways, polarized, reversed, replacement, pole reverse, IC pin bending, text recognition. It can also detect the solder more tin, less tin, no tin, virtual welding, short circuit, tin ball, float, etc.

AOI is mainly divided into two categories: online AOI detection and offline AOI detection.

1. Online AOI testing

Use the AOI inspection equipment to monitor the PCB production process. Through the inspection of each PCB on the production line, the PCB's specific production status is monitored online and provides a basis for adjusting the production craft. Online AOI testing is preferred when mass production of low-mixing products is critical for reliability.

2. Offline AOI detection

Offline AOI is the detection of the final state of the PCB product that goes off the production line. It is mainly used for the detection of products with clear problems, quantity and speed as key factors and high product mix. The off-line AOI is typically placed in the middle of the production line where the device can generate a wide range of process control information.

As PCB products continue to be miniaturized, the accuracy of SMT process is getting higher and higher, and the method of inspectedby human eyes has been eliminated.
